エコロギーセミナー「コオロギから始まる新たな食の循環」を開催しました

　2025年3月12日、メイク・ニュー・スタンダード次世代研究事業アジア・環太平洋未来創造分野主催セミナーを開催しました。講師には、株式会社エコロギーのCOO池田健介様をお迎えしました。

　セミナーでは、池田様が大学の１年後輩である現CEOと共に、どのようにコオロギ食事業を立ち上げたのか、また迷った時に立ち返るためにつけた社名に込めた思いを伺いました。

　また、「そもそもなぜ今昆虫食か？」というテーマのもと、世界的な視点から解説してくださいました。人口増加によるタンパク質需要の高まりにより、「プロテインクライシス」が懸念されるなか、環境負荷の少ない代替タンパク源の一つとして昆虫食が注目されていること、特にコオロギは雑食で飼料効率が高いこと、そして世界ではすでに2,000種類以上のコオロギ食品が流通しており、今後さらなる市場拡大が期待されていることなど、データを交えながら詳しくご説明いただきました。

　質疑応答では、昆虫食の安全性や文化的な受容性に関する質問が寄せられ、活発な議論が交わされました。

　セミナー終了後も、池田様と直接話をしたいと多くの参加者が列を作るなど、大きな関心を集めた様子が印象的でした。

On March 12, 2025, we hosted a seminar organized by the Make New Standards Program for the Next Generation Researchers, Creating the Future of Asia and Pan Pacific Field. We welcomed Mr. Kensuke Ikeda, COO of ecologgie Inc., as our guest speaker.

During the seminar, Mr. Ikeda shared how he and his university junior, now the CEO, established the cricket-based food business. He also explained the meaning behind their company’s name, which was chosen as a reminder of the core values they return to when facing challenges.

In addition, under the theme “Why Insect-Based Food Now?” he provided insights from the global perspective on the topic. He explained that as protein demand continues to rise due to population growth, the so-called "protein crisis" has become a increasing concern. He highlighted that insect-based food serves as an environmentally friendly alternative protein source, with crickets being particularly efficient due to their omnivorous nature and high feed conversion efficiency. Furthermore, he presented data showing that over 2,000 cricket-based food products are already available globally and that the market is expected to expand further in the future.

During the Q&A session, participants asked questions about the safety of insect-based food and whether cultural resistance exists toward its consumption, leading to a lively discussion.

Even after the seminar ended, many participants lined up to speak with Mr. Ikeda directly, demonstrating the high level of interest in the topic.
